About the God of War series
The God of War series is being developed by Amazon Studios and will be based on the popular 2018 game that revived the PlayStation franchise.
According to Amazon’s description, the series will follow Kratos, the god of war, who hangs up his arms forever in the Norse realm of Midgard, following exile from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece.
When his beloved wife dies, Kratos embarks on a perilous journey with his son Atreus to scatter her ashes from the highest peak – his wife’s last wish.
Kratos soon learns that this adventure is an epic journey in disguise, one that will test the bond between father and son and force Kratos to battle new gods and demons.
Judkins will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Iron Man and Children of Men writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby on the series based on the game being developed by Santa Monica Studio.
Santa Monica Studio’s creative director Corey Barlog will also serve as executive producer, along with PlayStation Productions’ Assad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, Santa Monica Studio’s Yumi Yang and Vertigo’s Roy Lee.
Jeff Ketchum of Santa Monica Studio is co-executive producer. The show is a co-production between Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television in association with PlayStation Productions.
Previously, Amazon Studios head of television Vernon Sanders had even declared that the God of War series would be “incredibly faithful to the source material”.
There is still no premiere date for the God of War series on Prime Video.
