That being said, what do those responsible for the show think? In an interview, Neil Druckmann, co-founder of Naughty Dog and producer of the TV show, expressed his hope that the 19-year-old actress would return to play her character in Season 2 and beyond.
“I can’t imagine that version of Ellie being someone else (…) We are extremely lucky to have Bella, and the only way we would ever consider auditioning again is if Bella said, ‘I don’t want to work with you anymore.’ . Even so, I’m not sure we’d grant him that. We could still force her back to Season 2,” Neil Druckmann said.
On the other hand, the producer and screenwriter Craig Mazin seconded these statements and expressed his interest in Bella Ramsey playing Ellie in Season 2 of The Last of Us. Regarding the criticism of the young appearance of the actress, she remarked in the interview for The Wrap that she is 19 years old, just the age of the character in the second video game.
