Acer Predator Connect X5, complete review in Spanish

We continue to provide solutions to improve our home network with one of the most complete routers found in the Acer catalogue, the Acer Predator Connect X5, a router that In addition to squeezing our fiber to the maximum, it has a NanoSIM slot to have a complete network when we lack wired connectivity.
Before starting, We thank Acer for the loan of the unit to carry out the review
The Acer Predator Connect X5
We begin the review of the Acer Predator Connect X5 shelling out a point that must be taken into account, its volume and designand it is that we are facing a router that, despite the fact that it includes a large group of functions, only has a size of 18 x 9 cm with a quite striking design as well as compact. Regarding materials, a black plastic body has been chosen with the grilled upper and lower area to facilitate cooling and a front in which only its status LEDs stand out. For the rear area we leave the ports section, where we find a large group of connectors while the nanoSIM tray and the reset button move to the lower area. Regarding the ports of the posterior area we find:
- 2x TS9 ports for antenna
- WPS button
- RJ-45 LAN/WAN port
- RJ-45 LAN 2.5Gbps
- RJ-45 1Gbps LAN
- 1x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A (5Gbps)
- power input

Once we have seen the external face of the Acer Predator Connect X5, we are going to see what it hides in its bowels, and it is that such a compact body hides a whole beast moved by a Mediatek T750 chipset and that implements the Mediatek MT6890 as a 5G modem accompanied by the MT6190 chip 12 nm routing that integrates Wi-Fi connection, USB connectivity, LAN allowing multi-Gigabit speeds. Such a tandem is accompanied by 1 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and another GB of storage.

Let’s see the connectivity of the router, starting with the wireless section of the Acer Predator Connect X5:
- Wi-Fi 6 2.4 GHz: supports 4×4 connections up to 1148 Mbps on the 40 MHz band, being limited to 574 Mbps on 2×2 clients
- Wi-Fi 6 5 GHz: max 2402 Mbps with 80 MHz channels
- 5G data connectivity: Supports GSM, 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G Multi-Mode with theoretical bandwidths of up to 4.7 Gbps downlink and 2.3 Gbps uplink.
To this we must add the support of MU-MIMO, OFDMA, Bss Color and the IEEE 802.11ax standard. As if this seems little to us, we can also make use of a precise9 network control through the Intel Killer Prioritization Enginewhich will allow us to automatically manage the priority of our connections that, together with the Gamers Private Network (GPN) WTFast (paid)will allow us to have the best possible connection for our online games.

The configuration of the router is done in a very simple way, so you should not have knowledge of networks to be able to install it although, at least in our case, It will be practically impossible for you to set it up without your operator’s router even if you have the PPPoe keys. The management/configuration of the router can be done from a mobile app, with many options, or from the router’s own system (via web browser) where we will find a relatively complete list of configuration options.

And the million dollar question, why do you want a USB 3.1 Gen1 in a router, so to mount shared storage units throughout the network and be able to have your own server easily, quickly and with minimal space.
speed tests
Having said this, we will verify the speeds that the router gives us in different options and compared with our operator’s router, this being Acer a slave to the router to which we connect it. Precisely because of this configuration, we did not find differences in the wired connectivity between the two.

We went to wireless connectivity where we did not find much difference in speeds but we did gain a lot with the management of connection priorities and a WiFi coverage much higher than that of the operator’s router

User experience and conclusions
We face the final stretch of the review of the Acer Predator Connect X5 with a very good taste in our mouths, and it is that Despite the fact that on paper (in synthetic tests) the advantage we have in our connection is not reflected by prioritizing the connection for certain tasks, such as content streaming or gaming, we do obtain that advantage together with very good WiFi coverage. superior to that of our operator’s router and, obviously, the advantages offered by the implementation of the 5G network to be able to take the router on the road and set up our own network wherever we go. The other strong point is that, despite having very powerful hardware and a beautiful and compact design, it comes to us by a more than moderate price, within the very expensive that these types of routers are, being a very good option in relation to quality price. The negative point, and positive in turn, is that the router is designed for domestic users, so its configuration is very simple, but certain aspects are also limited that, otherwise, would allow us to use it to replace our operator’s router and use it as main router.
For all this, we awarded the Game It Design, Premium Product, Recommended Product and Quality Price awards to the Acer Predator Connect X5
