The first trailer for the highly anticipated movie “Barbie,” directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, was unveiled Friday by Warner Bros.
In the advance published on YouTube, Barbie (Robbie) appears dressed in the black and white striped bathing suit with which it was released in 1959 surrounded by girls playing with baby dolls that they end up destroying to keep the Mattel toy.
The advance evokes the primate scene from the film “2001: A Space Odissey” (1968) by Stanley Kubrick that symbolizes the evolution of thought.
A narrator’s voice begins by explaining that “since the beginning of time, since the first little girl existed, there have been dolls, but dolls had always been baby dolls, until…”, at which point a woman appears. Giant Barbie.
The 75-second trailer also features an all-pink toy town, dance scenes and a brief glimpse of Barbie’s boyfriend Ken (Gosling).

The original script for the film was written by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, his sentimental partner, who had already worked together on films such as “Frances Ha”.
Gerwig was also nominated in 2018 for an Oscar for best screenplay and best direction for “Lady Bird”, an acclaimed “indie” film led by Saoirse Ronan, and also made her own version of “Little Women” (2019).
