Phillies sign left-handed pitcher Matt Strahm to two-year deal

The Philadelphia Phillies aren’t playing. They have also signed veteran lefty reliever Matt Strahm. The deal is for two years and $15 million. of greenbacks. Strahm, 31, compiled a 3.83 ERA in 44 2/3 innings with the Boston Red Sox in 2022. In seven MLB seasons, Strahm has a 3.81 career ERA.
Matthew Scott Strahm will slot into the back of the bullpen, joining speedster José Alvarado as the Phillies’ top left-handed options in the late inning. The measure will most likely put them above the $233 million luxury tax threshold:
Unless there is an unexpected move in which the Phillies dump the salary, they will pay the tax for the second straight season. Strahm is the third free agent signing of the offseason for the Phillies, joining shortstop Trea Turner and starter Taijuan Walker.

So far, the Phillies have committed a combined $387 million with three free agents. Of course, much of that money belongs to shortstop Turner, who reportedly signed an 11-year, $300 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies just yesterday.
