The nun Cristina Scuccia, whose triumph in the Italian version of the television contest “La Voz” in 2014 traveled the world, has hung up his habits and now lives in Spain, where she continues to sing and works as a waitress to earn a living.
Sister Cristina, who had moved and surprised the world performing Alicia Keys’ “No One” in her first performance and who ultimately won the show, embarked on a career as a singer and was part of the cast of the musical “Sister Act”, as well as appearing in 2016 among the protagonists of the musical “Titanic”, but without abandoning religious life.
After spending a few years away from the stage, Cristina Scuccia appeared this Sunday on Canale 5’s “Verissimo” program with a surprising makeover and, dressed in a red pantsuitannounced that he had left religious life and currently lives in Spain, where she continues to cultivate her passion for music and works as a waitress.
“Sister Cristina is within me. I am who I am now thanks to Sister Cristina“, said the former Ursuline nun, explaining that she had “followed a wonderful path in which there have been difficulties”, but that right now she can smile “even more than in the past”.
He assured that he “continues to believe in God” and that “has no intention of abandoning his path of faith” and that she is “grateful for everything she has lived up to now”.
After 15 years of religious life, he explained that “this media exposure, over time, was the engine of many questions” and that everything precipitated with the pandemic, when everything stopped and he was able to reflect on whether he was happy.
She explained that she had to be helped by a psychologist because she couldn’t get out “of the dark.” “She didn’t understand who she was. I have never denied God, but I was not within my habit“, he added.
On whether she will find love, the former religious affirmed that “she believes in love, but it is not something she considers now.” “It’s not my priority right now. You have to take care of yourself, love yourself, before you can love others,” she said.
Born in 1988 in Vittoria, in Sicily (south), she entered the convent at the age of 19. After being discovered by “la Voz Italia” in a religious singing contest, she was called to participate in the television program.
Her audition for “The Voice” with Alicia Keys’ ”No One” surpassed 90 million views on YouTube in a week and during the program she received praise from one of the judges, Raffaella Carrà, who assured that Sister Cristina “was born to be on stage”.
