In order to promote this spirit and facilitate the work of the working groups that propose initiatives in search of excellence in this field, the II Asomega-SEMG Rural Medicine Scholarship is convened with the support of Menarini laboratories.

As in the first edition, the objective of the Galician Doctors Association (Asomega) and the Spanish Society of General and Family Doctors (SEMG) is to promote healthcare, teaching or research initiatives that contribute to improving the quality of medicine rural in Galicia.

The bases of the call They detail that they will be eligible for projects, both new and already started, presented by practicing doctors in the field of Primary Care in the Autonomous Community of Galicia. Not having participated in similar calls or already having funding for their start-up are requirements for competing projects. In addition to a complete description of the proposal, the candidates will have to attach an economic report that quantifies the cost of the initiative, which will be covered by the scholarship up to a maximum of 6,000 euros.

Those interested in applying for the II Rural Medicine Scholarship will have to send the documentation detailed in the bases to the email address of the Technical Secretariat of Asomega:, before December 31, 2022. The jury’s decision, made up of members of the respective Asomega and SEMG scientific committees, will be announced at the end of January 2023.

The doctor Antonio Fernandez-Pro, President of the Spanish Society of General and Family Physicians (SEMG), believes that “Knowledge through community, teaching and research projects on aspects related to health promotion, disease prevention or better healthcare is essential“. In addition, within the great social debt that there is with Primary Care, he considers that the rural area is still “unprotected and sometimes forgotten, for this reason it is more important to encourage the professionals who work in it“.
