Carolina De Miguel Benadiba, president of the Spanish Society of Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine (SERMEF), has valued Health and its specialty in the last 40 years. In addition, she has contributed her congratulations to the magazine EL MÉDICO for her 40th birthday.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of EL MÉDICO, could you take stock of your specialty over the last 40 years? What achievements have been achieved?

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation has undergone a great change in complexity and technification in treatments and solutions to deal with the high rates of disability.

The fundamental role of our specialty is increasingly recognized because citizens demand efficient and quality care to prevent and treat the physical sequelae of ailments and diseases.

The specialty is acquiring new skills that have been developed over the years in ultrasound, ultrasound-guided and non-ultrasound-guided interventionism, pain management and participation in pain units, osteoporosis, participation in the prescription of novel drugs, and in carrying out of interventionism in the consultation itself that prevent the patient from going to other consultations, with what it means in terms of time, pain management, economic expense and work absenteeism.

We must also highlight the engineering applied to Rehabilitation in exoskeletons, advances in prosthetics and orthotics in the treatment of amputees.

What has EL MÉDICO contributed to the health panorama?

EL MÉDICO has provided the healthcare scene with a professional space for reflection and an in-depth analysis of the healthcare scene that allows specialists to have within their reach questions and answers on important current issues that require rest and a calmer look.

In the health information sector in current times, fast and changing content prevails. A space like EL MÉDICO is needed in which professionals can delve into various issues of interest that need their time to be broken down and understood. And this is precisely what THE DOCTOR achieves. It gives professionals the opportunity to delve into the necessary keys that provide them with current knowledge with rigor and from different perspectives.

Congratulations to EL MÉDICO Magazine

From the Spanish Society of Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine we want to congratulate and applaud the professionals who make up the EL MÉDICO Magazine for their important work of reporting professionally, attractively and with the necessary rigor and analysis. We wish you much success in the next 40 years
