Jennifer Lopez is heartbroken over the tragic news of Ray Liotta’s death.

“Ray was my accomplice on ‘Shades of Blue’… the first thing that comes to mind is that he was so nice to my kids,” wrote the actress Thursday in a tribute post dedicated to her co-star.

“Ray was the epitome of a tough guy who was all mushy on the inside… I guess that’s what made him such a compelling actor to watch. The original good guy.

Lopez, 52, went on to recall some of the “intense” moments she and Liotta shared on set.

“The first time we got on set to shoot our first scene together there was an electric spark and mutual respect and we both knew it was going to be cool,” he recalled.

“We enjoyed shooting the scenes together and I felt lucky to have him there to work with and learn from. Like all artists he was complicated, sincere, honest and very emotional. Like a bare nerve, he was so approachable and so in touch in his acting and I will always remember our time together fondly. “

Lopez concluded his post by telling fans “we lost a big one today”.

“RIP RAY… it’s so sad to lose you for what it seems soon,” he wrote. “I will always remember. Sending so much love and strength to your daughter Karsen, your family and all your loved ones ”.

Lopez and Liotta starred together in NBC’s crime drama from 2016 to 2018. Fans of the show frequently commented on the duo’s on-screen chemistry, which both stars addressed in a 2016 interview with Deadline.

“Yes, many people say that. Everyone says it, ”Liotta said of their compatibility with the camera.

“It’s always a natural thing that I find with actors whether you have chemistry or not,” Lopez added. “And I always say that you can create some, but in an innate way there has to be a relationship, an ease, a respect. I feel we were willing to open up to each other and be those people for each other. “

Lopez played the charismatic single mother and detective Harlee Santos in the series, led by Liotta’s enigmatic Lieutenant Matt Wozniak, who often broke the law in his attempts to protect and serve.

When the hit show ended after three seasons – due to Lopez leaving to play film roles – Liotta expressed her disappointment in saying goodbye.

“I’m going to really miss him because he was a fantastic character,” Liotta said in 2018. “I really think yes, Jennifer [Lopez] it was great, but go get Edie Falco and we’re off again. It was so well built and you never knew what was going to happen.

A representative of Liotta confirmed to Page Six Thursday that the actor died in his sleep in the Dominican Republic, where he was shooting a new film called “Dangerous Waters”. He was 67 years old.
