Tom Cruise returns with Top Gun: Maverick almost 40 years later

Tom Cruise’s smile is not only shared when he is in front of a camera, on tape or for an interview, but also when he is with his people.

This Friday, during his visit to Mexico to promote the film Top Gun: Maverick, which will be released in theaters on May 25, the American actor posed for some photos with the press; sweater, pants and black boots were his clothing.

Behind the scenes, he is kind, talkative and spreads good vibes to everyone around him, he makes jokes to the cast and, far from feeling like the international star that he is, he is humble.

“I feel very happy to be here in Mexico, I already missed him,” he said in a very brief exclusive chat with The Sun of Mexico in a corridor of the hotel on Paseo de la Reforma where he had some activities.

“I feel very lucky to be fulfilling one of my dreams, which is to travel around the world, it’s incredible to be here,” he said.

Almost four decades later, Cruise again gets into the skin of Peter “Maverick” Mitchellfor the sequel to the 1986 film.

Maverick you will have to face your deepest fears; in addition to starring in a mission that requires a great sacrifice for the heavens.

“Without a doubt, it is very challenging to make this film, they always asked me for a sequel, and I did not know how to make it, neither in the eighties nor in the nineties, I did not want to make a film for the sake of making it, I felt that it had to be at the right time”, Cruise said in a fan talk organized by the Top 40 and to which The Sun of Mexico had access.

At the meeting, the actors recognized the great support received by Tom, especially because they always worked in an environment of trust.

“They trained us in such a way that when we got to the set we were ready to do the scenes, it was really amazing. I think one of the things that makes me feel most proud is when Tom told us that we had to elevate that pain and the intensity that we had to project, that our faces did not show that we were comfortable, “said his co-star Jennifer Connelly.

The actors even assured that Tom is a great pilot as they felt no fear and even enjoyed being in the air with the actor.

“I was always very open with everyone, I didn’t want them to feel embarrassed about some things in the filming, so I always said what worked and what didn’t, say when something didn’t work out so that they also had that confidence to talk about the things that yes they went well.

“From the beginning they (the actors) were asked if they wanted to be part of this film, but in order to do so they had to take on these challenges. I admire that I know they were nervous, but they continued and gave us wonderful moments, I admire that they never gave up, “said Cruise.

Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Jon Hamm, Danny Ramírez and Mónica Barbaro make up the cast that gathered on the red carpet set up in a shopping plaza at the Toreo de Cuatro Caminos, in Mexico City yesterday afternoon.

Director Joseph Kosinski also paraded with his team and commented on what this project means to him.

“We have incredible writers, that’s what I liked, when I offered it to Tom, he immediately accepted. It is amazing to work with him, he has always had the same passion, since the last time we worked. The message of the tape is never to leave your friend, your partner, not to abandon him, ”Kosinski shared in an interview on the carpet.

Minutes before 6:00 p.m., the cast went downstairs; Gala dresses received their audience, mainly the protagonist who had the delicacy to stop for a few minutes to greet his fans.

In a single voice, the hundreds of followers who gathered in the square shouted the name of the protagonist who will celebrate six decades of life in July.

At the end, the entire cast took a photo with the film’s logo, while on its far left was an orchestra performing the film’s theme, hold my hand of Lady Gaga, between fireworks that announced the arrival of a new blockbuster for Tom Cruise.
