Friends: this was the alternative ending that very few remember
A few months ago, the cast of ‘friends‘ was reunited 17 years after the end of the successful sitcom and the special they made for HBO Max was a real success and revitalized the popularity of the series. The fans returned to review their favorite chapters and discover curious details about their favorite series.
In recent days, fans have focused on the alternative ending which almost had the series, since initially the writers’ idea was that Ross (David Schwimmer) and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) would not end up together.
Ross and Rachel were the original couple from ‘friends‘ and fans wished they would end up together. The couple between Monica and Chandler is also very loved by fans of the sitcom, but the chemistry between Ross and Rachel was undeniable since the first season of the series.
While Ross and Rachel went through several fights and breakups, fans have always wished they would end up together. In the series finale, Rachel gets off a plane to Paris to be with Ross, but that wasn’t the writers’ original plan.
The creators of the series contemplated a final in which the couple was not shown meeting and which was left open to the interpretation of the spectators. “We wanted to leave it in a gray area, where they weren’t together, but they could reconcile later,” explained David Crane in an interview.
Ultimately, they ruled out this option because everyone wanted to see Ross and Rachel together again. That’s when they had to find a way to give the public what they wanted, but in an unexpected way. There appeared the last minute decision that Rachel makes before getting on the plane to Paris.
In a survey conducted by TVInsider, 65% of fans of ‘friends‘ voted that Ross and Rachel are still together today and that they are married. The couple’s daughter, Emma Geller, would be 20 today while Ross’s first child, Ben, would be 27.
