THE Take That conquer Cannes: yes, the band (or at least part of its members) was a guest of the kermesse on the occasion of the premiere of the film Greatest Days. They walked the red carpet Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen, to the delight of entire generations who have grown up to the rhythm of their unforgettable songs. The boy band, one of the most successful in the history of world music (possibly the best boy band ever) revolutionized the 1990s. They were in business, in the original five-man lineup (including Robbie William) from 1990-1996 – seeing Barlow, Donald and Owen together again was a wonderful step back in time.

What are Take That doing in Cannes

Since the 1990s, cinema has often been inspired by the lives, adventures and careers of great music stars. The overwhelming success of the Spice Girls inspired in 1997 Spice – The Movie. A few years earlier it was the turn of the documentary Truth or Darefocused on Madonna. More recently, productions focused on Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift have followed. Greatest Days, instead, it tells of a boy band modeled by director Coky Giedroyc thinking precisely of Take That of the 90s.

As Gary, Robbie, Howard, Mark and Jason are actors Aaron Bryan, Dalvin Cory, Joshua Jung, Mark Samaras and Mervin Noronha. The film is based on the 2017 play The Bandproduced by Take That.

An extra touch of color for Howard Donald, wearing a light shirt and magenta 73 London trousers, a white Paul Smith single-breasted jacket and Harrys of London sports shoes. The three today are all 50 years old and obviously they are very different compared to when they sang on stages around the world unforgettable hits such as Back for good, How deep is your love, Never forget, Everything changes. Three decades have passed and yet they remain icons for entire generations, grown up listening to their music on Walkman cassettes.
