‘Hitch’: Will Smith once called security for a fan who freaked out seeing him kiss his male co-star

Will Smith has had a devoted fan base since his fresh prince days. But due to his popularity, some fans may have certain expectations about the actor. So when Smith kissed his co-star Kevin James on the set of Hitch, a fan on set did not take kindly to the scene. Eventually, Smith even had to call fan security to calm him down.
Will Smith was once confronted by another actor for refusing to kiss another man on screen.
As some may know, Smith once shared that on film. six degrees of separation, refused to kiss her male co-star. Although she had her reasons for not making out with Anthony Michael Hall, it was a decision she later regretted.
“It was very immature of me,” Smith once told Entertainment Weekly. “I was thinking, ‘How are my friends in Philly going to think about this?’ I wasn’t emotionally stable enough to commit artistically to that aspect of the film… This was a valuable lesson for me. Either you do it, or you don’t.”
But McKellen would later confront the actor about his decision in a humorous way.
“[Smith] she came in for the reading with a huge entourage: her family, her agent, her publicist, her acting coach, her nanny,” McKellen once told Time Out. “He was charming and a good actor. But he did a dumb thing: he refused to kiss another guy on screen, even though he was in the script. That is why, in an early preview, I met him in public outside the theater and gave him a big kiss on the lips.”

Smith had matured considerably as an actor after his six degrees days. So when he was scheduled to kiss his co-star and king of queens star Kevin James, it wasn’t a big deal. Especially since he was doing it in a comedy.
“However, with comedy, you can get away with it. I’m comically brave, so I felt very comfortable,” she once said in a BBC interview about the scene.
However, there was one fan on set who took the scene between James and Smith too seriously. And he let Smith know that he disapproved.
“We were shooting the movie in New York a year ago and no one knows what it’s about at the time, so there’s like 250 New Yorkers standing around while we shoot the scene. So this black guy walks up and he’s looking and he sees Kevin lean in for this kiss and he yells, ‘Brother, NO! Hell no, Will! U-uh, man! Don’t do that Will! What the hell are you doing, brother?! So, we had to call security to calm him down and explain that it was a movie and that he was a little more okay with it,” he recalled.

Smith didn’t make the decision not to kiss her male co-star on her own in six degrees. The Oscar winner confided that he went to discuss the issue with Denzel Washington. But Washington had very simple words for the actor.
“Kiss no man,” Washington allegedly once told Smith according to The Independent.
