After more than a year away from WWE programming, Lacey Evans reappeared last month through a series of promotional videos on SmackDown. In them the fighter recounted the key, emotional and inspiring moments of her life.
Throughout these videos, Lacey was shown as a character facegetting emotional every time he referred to some complicated or sad moment in his lifewhich implied that WWE had opted for a turn face since, before the fighter was absent from programming due to her last pregnancy, she acted as heels.
However, in the last episode of SmackDown, after the fifth chapter of his story was broadcast, Evans appeared live for the first time. At that time, the announcer Samantha Irvin pointed out that the fighter wanted the fans to stand up and show her the proper respect, something that fits more with a heel character. Apparently, this part was Vince McMahon’s ideasomething he has already used numerous times with other heels in the past.
In this sense, during the latest edition of Figure Four Daily on F4WOline.com, journalist Bryan Alvarez and Lance Storm addressed this issue. Then we leave you with Storm’s statements about it, transcript courtesy of WrestlingNews.co:
“If she’s going to be one heels from the narration of these stories, I think it is quite clear… I’ve seen countless interactions on Twitter between Lacey and a ton of fans talking about how much these promos have meant to them and how much of an inspiration it is and how great it is to see someone on TV sharing stories… she responds to all of them and it’s a great interaction baby face. This sense of well-being, of how one person’s difficulties and overcoming them can give hope to many people, is a quality baby face. She is really very talented because she can also be great as baby faceso if you’re really going to turn it into heels immediately after these promotional videos, then I’m like Bryan and I just want to hit my head against the wall.
Bryan Álvarez pointed out that he had no problem with Evans being heels again, but after this series of videos, he doesn’t think now is the time for it, and that WWE should take advantage of the favorable impact they have had to keep it as baby face.
On Evans’ appearance on the latest episode of WWE SmackDown
“They can’t go on with that, they can’t… I was back at my hotel on Friday night and I watched a little bit of SmackDown live and when they did the ‘please stand up and show him proper respect,’ I realized that was my gimmick when I was on Team Canada!“
Regardless of what the company has in store for Lacey Evans, we’ll see it on WWE Raw. Following the broadcast of his promotional videos on SmackDown, Finally, the fighter has been transferred to the red brand roster, where everything seems to indicate that she will return to her old role as heels.
