Madrid, May 12 (EFE).- Telefónica earned 20.3% less in the first quarter of the year than last year as its turnover fell by 9%, after the impact of the perimeter change applied especially due to the merger of its subsidiary in the United Kingdom and despite the positive impact of the currency exchange rate. In this first quarter of the year, Telefónica obtained a net profit of 706 million euros, while its revenues stood at 9,410 million euros, according to data provided by the operator on Thursday from the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV). . The change in perimeter had a negative impact on its revenues by 1,492 million euros, mainly due to the merger in the United Kingdom, where VMO2 was created as a result of the merger of its subsidiary in this country (O2) with that of Liberty Global (Virgin Media) and whose accounting effects began to be applied last June. This modification also had an impact on operating costs, at 1,043 million, which fell 5.5% in year-on-year terms in this quarter. However, it increased by 1,421 million euros in this first quarter. If half of the revenue obtained by VMO2 is included, Telefónica would have entered 10,883 million euros in this first quarter, 3.2% more than the same period of 2021 in organic terms, that is, without taking into account the type currency exchange. In Spain, the operator entered 3,079 million euros, 0.9% more; in Germany 1,946 million, 5.2% more; in Brazil 1,942 million, 18.1% more; and in Hispam 2,150 million, 10.9 percent more.
