A tense moment was experienced during the defamation trial between Johnny Depp Y Amber Heard when both actors and their lawyers tried to leave the court at the same time for a recess granted by Judge Penney Azcarate.
The awkward encounter occurred on May 5 shortly after Heard testified about an alleged rape by her ex-husband, when the actress tried to get off the stand at the same time that Depp tried to leave his room. After looking at each other for a couple of seconds, a court official managed to avoid the crossing by cutting off the actor’s path.
In the end, the incident did not escalate, but it is one more example of the tension of the former married couple, who accuse each other of assault and, in the case of the actress, of sexual assault.
Depp and Heard met in 2009 as part of the recordings of the film “The Rum Diary” (2011), starring both. After a passionate romance, the couple married in February 2015, although they ended up divorcing in January 2017 after allegations of abuse against the actor.
The lawsuit stemmed from an article Amber Heard published in The Washington Post in 2018 declaring herself a survivor of domestic abuse. Although the actress did not name Depp in the note, the actor considered that he insinuated that he was her abuser and sued her for the amount of US $ 50 million. Heard for her part countersued him, asking for US $ 100 million and stating that she was the victim of abuse by the actor.
A similar trial took place in the UK in 2020, when Depp sued The Sun tabloid for calling him a “wife beater” in a story. In the end, the star of “Pirates of the Caribbean” lost the lawsuit.
