The production company 20th Century Studios released the official trailer for “Avatar: The Way of Water” on Monday, the second part of the highest-grossing saga in history that will be released on December 16.
The film, whose plot has not been fully revealed, will be based on the aquatic world of Pandora – made up of oceans, lakes and sea creatures – and will be set more than a decade after the events of the first film.
What is known so far is that it will tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri and their three children), who will be forced to leave their home and explore different regions of Pandora through the aquatic environment.
“One thing I know, wherever we go, this family is our forte,” says lead character Jake Sully in this sneak peek of the “Avatar” prequel.
The premiere of the trailer made clear the commitment of its production company to a 3D design of enormous visual quality, with character and animated landscapes whose details appear very defined and modeled.
The film is again directed by James Cameron, and is co-produced by Jon Landau and Cameron himself through his company, Lightstorm Entertainment.
The cast of “Avatar: The Way of Water” includes Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Kate Winslet.
The followers of the saga were especially excited on social networks with this production, and there are those who predicted that it could be “the movie of the decade”.
After “Avatar” (2009) became the highest grossing film in history, with a collection of around 2,850 million dollars, 20th Century Studios plans to develop five films of this franchise that would end its legacy in 2028.
