Celebs use the book stylist for their street style shots

Our critical eyes are on them, models, influencers, actresses, entrepreneurs, while they are dedicated to a walk in the city, giving moments of pure street style inspiration. The goal is to grasp the secret of their style that – it may seem strange – it also passes by the book they choose to read or maybe it would be better to say wear. Books have become the new must-have accessories and we couldn’t be happier with them.

To say it is the New York Times where an article by Nick Haramis unveils the presence of a book stylist among the most prominent celebs in Los Angeles. With this figure we mean a professional who studies the profiles of famous people and advises them with which book to show themselves under the flashes. Just like the stylist does to match a handbag to the look, the book stylist uses his experience to match a book to the celeb and thus communicate a certain personality. Haramis does not reveal exactly which are the stars who use the book stylist but rewinding the film we can find some iconic shots that testify to the fusion between jet set and culture.

In 2019, Kendall Jenner was photographed on a yacht while reading a copy full of green post-its of the essay Tonight I’m Someone Else by Chelsea Hodson. A demanding literature that made headlines in the hands of a pop icon, so much so that it bounced here and there between social media and newspapers and sold out the book in a few hours in the Amazon store. Like her, several models usually photograph themselves and have themselves photographed while showing off a reading, see Gigi Hadid paparazzata as she goes to the Fendi fashion show in Milan holding a copy of The stranger by Albert Camus o sister Bella who combines an oversized suit with a copy of Stephen King. Or even Kaia Gerber who uses the book as an accessory and object to shield herself from photographers, lifting it in front of her face.

The union between fashion and culture is also evidenced by the most recent initiatives of luxury fashion houses, see the entry Chanel literary club where Charlotte Casiraghi and other personalities meet to discuss strictly Chanel literature and philosophy. In the streets we see Valentino’s The Narratives advertising campaign wanted in 2021 and 2022 by the creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli which cites passages by great authors.

On the catwalk, Etro showed the volumes of the Little Adelphi library, slipping some into the pockets of the trousers and jackets of the models who walked the catwalk of the fashion show held in January at the Bocconi University in Milan. It is therefore natural to wonder if what binds fashion and literature is a sincere love or a trend made to be used and crumpled. According to Haramis this is not the point to focus on: what matters is that this new trend is making books cool againwith the virtuous effect of putting more of it into circulation, giving literature a second life.
