Overwatch 2 it remained silent for many months since its original announcement, which is not surprising considering the lawsuit against Activision Blizzard that came to light in the middle of last year. Luckily, it gave signs of life a few weeks ago and now we know that a Closed Beta will be available at the end of April. Of course, leaks began to emerge all over the internet.

Now, purported official character concept art appears to reveal that the developers plan to incorporate a controversial element present in many current free-to-play titles into the long-awaited sequel to the hero shooter.

Will Overwatch 2 have a Battle Pass? A concept art suggests so

On April 2, an image appeared on the ArtStation website where it is possible to see what appears to be the main menu of Overwatch 2. What lends credibility to the matter is that Jayson Kirby, a senior UI artist at Blizzard, was the one who uploaded the concept art to the platform.

“The goal was to further simplify and refine the look of Overwatch. The point of the menus was to really show the heroes in the foreground. As the player progressed through the menus, the camera and the position of the hero would change dynamically, ”says the description of the image.

Despite being a simple image of the main menu, it is possible to extract very interesting information from it. The most important thing is, of course, the inclusion of a new section titled Battle Pass, which seems to indicate that this controversial monetization model, which is present in titles like Fortnite and CoD: Warzonewill make an appearance in the hero shooter.

We must remember that, in April 2021, the director of Overwatch 2Aaron Keller, considered the possibility of including the Battle Pass in the game, although at that time he did not confirm or deny its implementation.

It is important to note that the conceptual art does not confirm that the sequel to the hero shooter will incorporate this system, since there is always the possibility that there will be a change of plans. Likewise, it is necessary to point out that Jayson Kirby stopped working in Overwatch in March 2020 and is now working on an “unannounced project”.
