Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, GTA V and Minecraft: Maybe it’s time to stop playing them. Or maybe not

As a counterpoint to these three sagas would be From Software, his boss Hidetaka Miyazaki and his souls genre. Dark Soulsthe first success, was launched on the market in 2011. Since then, within the main saga, they have released three more games and another two souls-likeculminating in the incredible Elden Ringa Dark Souls of an open world that has to be given very well the rest of the year so that it is not the best video game that we see in 2022.

Miyazaki himself has said it on several occasions: Elden Ring is the evolution of Dark Souls contributing game elements from other companies (the influence of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in the way of approaching an open world without markers is evident) but above all of its products Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twicesuch as the speed and possibilities of the combats or the verticality of the scenarios.

In fact, his own GTA followed a similar path to souls. After creating with GTA III the first great three-dimensional open world in 2001, there were games in the saga in 2002, 2004, 2008 and finally in 2013 comes the GTA V then the plain. The lack of evolution, stagnation and repetition of formulas has the potential to turn these games into the sitcom you saw at two in the afternoon on Antena 3. And we all know that The Simpsons have been pretty bad for a few years now.

It is also true that these experiences, especially GTA Vthey have grown tremendously in their online aspect. More content, but really little playable novelty. Thus, maybe the time has come to stop playing these games to force companies to offer us truly new games. Or maybe not yet, seeing how much fun they are and how their communities keep growing.
