After a long wait, a new “Expendables” film is finally coming to the cinema. But this is not yet the fourth part of the action series.
It’s been seven years since we saw “The Expendables 3” in theaters. After we last saw Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Harrison Ford, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson and Co in this mega blockbuster, we have been waiting eagerly for the fourth part of the action series. Even if the waiting time for it is quite long, there now seems to be a spin-off in the series before that.
Sylvester Stallone himself finally brought some light into the dark on Instagram. There he posted a picture showing a tattooed arm with his Expendables character Barney Ross. So far, so unspectacular, but in the description of the picture Stallone reveals for the first time new information about how the series will continue. Filming on a spin-off for the “Expendables” series is due to begin in October. The whole thing is to be produced under the working title “Christmas Story”.
What sounds like a Christmas action film à la “Die Hard”, fans of the series will say a little more. And Christmas doesn’t just stand for Christmas, but is also Lee Christmas’s last name. He was embodied in the previous three films by “Transporter” actor Jason Statham and could now have his own story.
It is not yet certain whether the film will actually revolve around Statham’s role alone. Either way, we can certainly look forward to the appearance of some action heroes. Perhaps the film title alludes to the release period after all. While filming will begin in October this year, a theatrical release would be at the end of 2023 – i.e. around Christmas time.
