Since the major reopening of the German cinemas on July 1st, 2021, things have been going full steam ahead when it comes to scary, exciting and entertaining cinematic moments. But there is also a lot on offer on the television at home.
The German TV stations are of course also trying to provide us with an uncanny supply of films and series. We’ll tell you which new genre representatives and possible classic highlights you should be prepared for in the next few days with our current TV program guide (from July 31 to August 6, 2021) and the usual eerie, beautiful mix out of horror, Thriller, science fiction and fantasy.
Almost nowhere in the last two years has people fought for survival as gracefully, beautifully, bitterly and with so much madness and absurdity as in Ready or Not – On your marks, get set, dead with Samara Weaving as the unfortunate bride who shoots her way to freedom – by all means!
And now there is the bloody, winking survival hit on Sunday evening for the first time on German free TV. This is not only worthwhile for everyone who is rather skeptical of the concept of marriage. The family with its inner circles and customs that appear strange to the outside also get their fat away in the film.
In addition, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett enrich their resulting madness, which is somewhere between You’re next and Get out levels off, with a supernatural component that only elicits a hysterical laugh from the stunned bride – and we join in!
Giant trolls, cave monsters and other dangers
Guillermo del Toro also knows how to merge different genre elements that don’t really make sense on paper into coherent films.
The best example of this is his Oscar-winning masterpiece Shape of Water – The whisper of the water about a rather inconspicuous woman who falls madly in love with an amphibious being and runs away with him. Of course, this is not without consequences. Shape of water is heartbreaking, exciting and sometimes quite drastic in its execution, which is why the film can only be seen in a slightly shortened version at prime time.
Our recommendation for the second big free TV premiere this week, the mystery thriller, is more cautious Keepers – The lighthouse keepers. The nautical yarn studded with Gerard Butler is neither as ambitious nor nightmarishly staged as its namesake The lighthouse, could still provide entertaining evening entertainment for thriller fans.
On top of that, this week there are again tried and tested genre classics such as the effective found footage representative Troll Hunter, the creature feature that plays in a dark cave The Cave‘Robert Rodriguez’ is no longer indexed From Dusk Till Dawn or those tailored to the nineties slasher generation Dark legends.
