For her performance on the Netflix flick “MankAmanda Seyfried recently received her first Oscar nomination. This has apparently not escaped the streaming platform Hulu, which after replacement for Kate McKinnon (“Saturday Night Live“, “Ghostbusters“) in the planned miniseries The Dropout. Long story short: the choice now fell on Seyfried.
The Dropout is based on the podcast of the same name by ABC News. The story focuses on the rise and fall of US entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes and her technology company Theranos, who committed serious fraud. The technical solutions offered by Theranos were deceptive packages. A rapid blood test, for example, which should require only the smallest amounts of blood, was exposed as inconclusive.
Before the big hoax was uncovered, Theranos was worth just under nine billion dollars in 2015. Holmes has since been charged with several crimes, including remittance fraud and conspiracy to commit referral fraud…
The Dropout was ordered almost two years ago (we reported). McKinnon probably left the project in February, probably due to scheduling reasons. Seyfried now also replaces her as producer of the series. The actress is known next to the film mentioned at the beginning “Mank” also from musical flicks like “Mamma Mia!” or “Les Miserables” as well as from “Ted“, “Mean Girls” or “Letters to Julia“.
In the series sector, Seyfried has so far let off steam with Big Love, Veronica Mars and the Showtime revival of Twin Peaks. Her voice is also known from American Dad and Family Guy.
