With “50 First Dates” one of the Adam Sandler comedies is now available on Amazon Prime Video that you can really watch over and over again. Also new: The biopic “Straight Outta Compton” about the way of the style-forming rap combo NWA
+++ opinion +++
How do you actually conquer your dream woman? Through attention, honesty and humor? Yes for sure. However, the smell of fish can also help, as you can see in “50 First Dates” with Adam Sandler as a (marine) veterinarian, which is now available as a subscription from Amazon Prime Video. For me, the romantic comedy is one of the funniest films in the comedy superstar’s oeuvre.
Even if the story follows the classic RomCom patterns (of which Adam Sandler can already identify a few more in his vita with “A wedding to fall in love”, “My invented wife” or “Ready for vacation”), director Peter Segal proves here an uncanny sense of situation comedy and madness. Just the appearance of “Stranger Things” star Sean Astin as a lisping would-be bodybuilder is splendid.
This is what “50 First Dates” is all about
Henry Roth (Adam Sandler) is living his dream: He is a veterinarian in Hawaii and cannot save himself from women. However, he has no interest in a steady relationship – until he finally runs into the charming Lucy Whitmore (Drew Barrymore). She is the woman of his life and for the first time it seems that Henry is really thinking about a future together.

Although Lucy is also fond of Henry, there is a catch: the woman lost her short-term memory in an accident and wakes up every morning believing it is the day of the accident. Henry makes it his business to conquer Lucy, even if he has to start from scratch day after day, week after week, month after Monday …
The fact that “50 first dates” works so wonderfully for me and can be watched again and again is also due to the two main actors: Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, who have now been in front of the camera together three times, simply have excellent chemistrywhich is of course elementary for such a comedy. In contrast to some of the other contributions in this genre, you really only wish the two of them the best here.
The rise and fall of a legendary hip-hop crew
Anyone interested in music will inevitably have to deal with NWA. The style-defining rap combo around Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E, DJ Yella and MC Ren were not only among the most radical representatives of their genre, but have long since become part of general education. Anyone who doesn’t know the controversial classic “Fuck Tha Police” has simply missed music history.
In “Straight Outta Compton” by “Fast & Furious 8” director F. Gary Gray, which is now also available on Amazon Prime Video, the rise and fall of NWA is traced. It all starts here in the mid-1980s in southern Los Angeles. In an area where crime is one of the highest in the United States, drugs and gang violence are commonplace. The police do not want to clarify the situation, but only discriminate and provoke the Afro-American residents additionally.

Five young men, who come from exactly this suburb, decide to escape this life – and use art to do so. Under her stage name Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins), Ice Cube (O’Shea Jackson Jr.), MC Ren (Aldis Hodge), Eazy-E (Jason Mitchell) and DJ Yella (Neil Brown Jr.) form NWA and raise their voices against the ruling class Grievances. Shortly after their big breakthrough, however, the group seems to be becoming more and more alienated …
