With “Jungle Cruise,” Disney is bringing its latest live-action movie to the big screen on July 29. A day later, Disney+ subscribers with VIP access will also be able to enjoy the film. For the adventure flick starring Emily Blunt (38) and Dwayne Johnson (49), director Jaume Collet-Serra (47) got inspiration from the riverboat attraction of the same name “Jungle Cruise” in Disneyland. Originally, the film was supposed to be released in 2020, but due to the pandemic, fans have had to be patient until now. Was it worth the wait?
Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson venture into the amazon jungle – That’s what it’s all about
Emily Blunt plays the adventurous explorer Dr. Lily Houghton in “Jungle Cruise”, who is looking for a unique tree with miraculous healing powers, which according to legend is said to grow deep hidden in the Amazon region. The tree could represent an unimaginable medical advance for humanity in the early 20th century. Arriving in the jungle with a bag and pack, Lily accepts the help of the uncouth captain Frank Wolff (Dwayne Johnson), who sails her across the Amazon on his rickety but charming boat “La Quila”. Together with Lily’s brother MacGregor (Jack Whitehall, 33), the two have to fight against dangerous animals, jungle dwellers and a competing expedition from the German Empire. An adventurous journey begins, which leads to a fateful decision…
“Indiana Jones” meets “Pirates of the Caribbean”: “Jungle Cruise” is the perfect action flick for the summer
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson himself describes the film as a mix of the iconic “Indiana Jones” films, the 1984 action comedy “On the Hunt for the Green Diamond” and the British adventure film “African Queen”. And you could hardly express it better. Already with “Pirates of the Caribbean” Disney succeeded from 2003 to bring the magic of a Disneyland attraction to the big screen. With “Jungle Cruise”, the group has succeeded in doing this in a new way.
The adventure film is a successful interplay of adventure stories and the humorous banter of the two main actors, who make a surprisingly funny comedy duo. In addition, it probably awakens fond memories of past amusement park visits in many viewers. Although the film gets a bit long-winded in between, it still inspires again and again with new, exciting twists. The bottom line is that “Jungle Cruise” is an exciting summer adventure for the whole family that should not be missed.
