Robin Williams was considered a multi-faceted actor and speaker, but the iconic actor could not get excited about a Marvel film.
- Born: July 21, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois USA
- Died: 08/11/2014
- Jobs: Actor, producer, speaker
The Marvel character made her first appearance on the big screen in “Howard: A Beastly Hero” from 1986, but the debut was anything but successful. The film flopped at the box office and received underground reviews. It was quiet about the anthropomorphic duck for a long time until she was able to book a few cameos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and even last appeared in “Avengers: Endgame”.

It’s been 35 years since Howard got his first film and as part of this anniversary, the “Howard – A Beastly Hero” stars Lea Thompson and Chip Zien were invited to an interview by The Hollywood Reporter and questioned. Zien lent the duck his voice, but the actor revealed that Robin Williams was originally intended for the narration role, but who broke off the work after only three days:
“What I was told was that on the third day, Robin said, ‘I can’t do this. It’s crazy. I don’t get into this rhythm. I get hemmed in. I’m restricted here just to do justice to the flapping duck ‘. So on Memorial Day 1985, I got a call from my agent who said, ‘You have to go straight to the airport! Robin Williams just quit and you’re Howard the Duck now. ‘”

No series on “Howard – An Animal Hero”
Robin Williams’ talent seemed to be a waste for the film, and the popular actor was somehow proven right. After only one year, the actor appeared in “Good Morning, Vietnam” and received a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for his role. After that, Williams’s career took off and the star made us laugh and / or cry with various films.
How about Howard the Duck? An animated series about the Marvel duck was planned despite the lack of success of the film at the time and should come from the streaming service Hulu and Marvel Television. However, those responsible decided against the project, although a small fan base formed around the figure. The reason for this was not disclosed, but Marvel Television may have wanted to break new ground. Nevertheless, the crazy series “Marvel’s What If …?” Awaits us soon, in which some well-known MCU actors will be heard. The Marvel series launches on August 11, 2021 on Disney + and maybe Howard will at least play a small role there.
