Director and screenwriter Sabrina Sarabi made it into the Swiss competition section “Concorso Cineasti del presente” with her drama “Nobody is with the calves” this year Made it to the Locarno Festival, which runs from 4th to 14th August.

The film is based on Alina Herbig’s novel of the same name and is about a 24-year-old Christian, played by Saskia Rosendahl, who lives in the eastern German province on the farm of her long-time friend Jan. The optimism of the post-reunification years is long gone – the young woman just wants to leave.
The film was shot in Schleswig-Holstein (16 days of shooting) and two days in Hamburg. The producers are Weydemann Bros, who recently celebrated an international success with Nora Fingscheidt’s drama “Systemsprenger” and who have already made director Sarabi’s debut feature “Prelude”. The main roles are played alongside Rosendahl, Rick Okon and Godehard Giese. “Nobody is with the calves” was supported by the MOIN film funding with 400,000 euros in production funding.
Fatih Akin from Hamburg produces action comedy
In the festival’s “Concorso internationale” competition, the action comedy “Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash”, also co-financed with 35,000 euros by the MOIN Film Fund, is running. The film by the award-winning Indonesian director Edwin is based on a novel about the fighter Kawir. His urge to fight is based on a secret: his impotence. The German co-producer is Fatih Akin’s company bombero international.
In addition, it is still running 50-minute film “First Time” by the Hamburg filmmaker Nicolaas Schmidt in the section “Pardi di domani: Concorso internazionale”. Schmidt accompanies two boys on a tour on the route of the Hamburg subway line U3 – an entertaining journey with great musical accompaniment.
The opening film on August 4th of the festival is the production of “Beckett” by a major streaming provider: In the thriller starring John David Washington, a US tourist in Greece is the target of a manhunt after an accident. The director is the Italian Ferdinando Cito Filomarino, the producer is his compatriot Luca Guadagnino (“Call Me By Your Name”). The film is star-studded with Washington, Vicky Krieps and Alicia Vikander.
