Grammy performance moves her father to tears
Camila Cabello’s Grammy performance moved the audience; first and foremost Father Alejandro, who burst into tears.
Camila Cabello (22) has used the stage of the Grammy Awards 2020 for a heartwarming declaration of love. However, this was not addressed to her friend Shawn Mendes (21, “Stitches”). Instead, the former Fifth Harmony member sang for her father, Alejandro Cabello, who had taken a seat in the front row of the Staples Center in Los Angeles and was moved to tears.
“As we walk to the altar, you look at me. With tears in your eyes. […] You don’t know how much it means to me that you were the first man who really loved me,” the 22-year-old said. She performed her song “First Man”, walked down the stairs to the audience at the end of the song and took her father’s hand. He could no longer hold back his emotional outburst.
He taught them “selfless love”
Cabello later explained the creation of the emotional track on Instagram: The idea came to her during her tour last year. “Suddenly I thought about my father and how much I miss him and how much he means to me,” says the 22-year-old. The writing process was so emotional that she “had to sob every ten minutes.” At the Grammy Awards yesterday, she said she “almost didn’t manage” to bring the song to the stage without tears.
Her thanks go to her father, “who showed me what it means to love someone selflessly. Who always makes me laugh when I cry. Who gives me security and open arms to fall into.”
