A former helper who is said to have supported Angelina Jolie in the adoption of her son Maddox could bring actress Angelina Jolie into Teufel’s kitchen with a statement. Sarath Mounh, who ran a non-governmental organization in Cambodia, claims he wasn’t one hundred percent sure if Jolie’s oldest adopted son was an orphan when Jolie brought him in.
Was Jolie’s adopted son not an orphan at all?
Angelina Jolie had adopted Maddox in 2002 together with her then husband Billy Bob Thornton from an orphanage in Phnom Penh. The couple gave the boy the name Maddox Chivan. After the divorce from Thornton, Jolie, who has five more children, received sole custody.
In an interview, Mounh now claims to MailOnline: “I am not 100% sure that Maddox was an orphan, even though he came from an orphanage. At least one of the parents may have been alive at the time of his adoption. But I never asked these difficult questions, no one did.”
“This happened a lot in Cambodia. There were many babies left in orphanages or sold to them by their parents because they couldn’t afford to take care of them,” Mounh says.
Kek Galibru, head of the human rights organization Licadho, who investigated the adoption, is said to have claimed even then: “I am sure that this child was not a real orphan and was not abandoned.”
Angelina Jolie, however, assured that she had gone to great lengths to ensure that Maddox had no living parents. She claims he was an orphan when she brought him to her.
“I would never rob a mother of her child. I can only imagine how terrible that would feel,” Jolie said in an interview a few years ago. “I prefer to be on the right side of the law. I would never take a child from a place where adoption is illegal,” she said.
