Anna Kendrick stars in the Netflix flick ‘Rodney & Sheryl’.
The streaming service has secured the services of the ‘Pitch Perfect’ actress for the new film, which is based on a true story. According to ‘Deadline’, she will play Cheryl Bradshaw, who participated in the popular TV show ‘The Dating Game’ in 1978. Rodney Alcala also entered the race on the show and ultimately won a date with Cheryl – but no one suspected that Rodney had a dark secret.
At the time, he had murdered five women and had been found guilty of the attempted murder of a twelve-year-old girl. Due to the lax background checks, however, he was admitted to the show as a participant. Cheryl finally canceled her date with Alcala at the last minute because she felt that something was wrong with him. Two years later, Alcala was sentenced to the death penalty for his horrific acts, but this was never carried out. Since then, the serial killer has been in a California prison.
Director Chloe Okuno has taken on the challenge of filming the dark material. Anna Kendrick is not only on board as the lead actress, but also as an executive producer, working with Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment.
