When Emily Blunt and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson drum up publicity these days for their new film “Jungle Cruise” (theatrical release: July 29, starting July 30 via VIP access on Disney+), it seems as if they have been a heart and soul for a long time. Her first personal contact was anything but happy. The British-American actress and her American-Canadian colleague recently told the exact circumstances at a press conference.
“Our director Jaume Collet-Serra flew to New York to meet Emily and give her the script for ‘Jungle Cruise,'” Johnson recalled. “When he left, I said, ‘Listen, I’ll send you a video.'” Collet-Serra was to hand it over to Blunt to convince her of the role: “I said [darin]:’Emily, you’re the only one who can make this movie.'” She was very touched by the video, Blunt confessed. Nevertheless, she emphasized: “I really loved your video!” And: “I would like to see it again.”
“That was Walt Disney’s baby”

In addition, he immediately recognized the potential of the story: “Jungle Cruise” is based on the very popular attraction of the same name from Disneyland in California, which opened in 1955. “That was Walt Disney’s baby,” Johnson explained. He himself had driven the train as a child. That’s why the film has a nostalgic touch for him. Moreover, he added, Collet-Serra was a “romantic, a master builder of the world.”
The adventure film “Jungle Cruise” tells the story of a magical tree in the Amazon region whose flowers can cure all diseases. Together with the headstrong skipper Frank (Johnson) and her brother McGregor (Jack Whitehall), the British researcher Lily Houghton (Blunt) wants to find the tree. But they are not the only ones who are after the magical power: the shady Prince Joachim (Jesse Plemons) and his entourage are already hot on their heels …
