The Tribute of James Gunn and the Marvel Studios to Stan Lee

Yesterday Stan Lee would have turned 97, and some Marvel film personalities wanted to remember the legendary cartoonist with thank you messages and very touching anecdotes.

James Gunn, for example, recalled one of Stan Lee’s creations to which he is most attached: “Today, in what should have been the 97th birthday of my friend and hero Stan Lee, I would like to point out that, in addition to Spider-Man, Thor and Hulk, created one of the most popular Guardians of the Galaxy, Groot, who is rarely mentioned. I love you and I miss you, Stan. “

“Stan Lee would have been 97 today. What a legend … we owe you a lot,” wrote Andy Park, director of Visual Development at Marvel Studios. “I had the honor of drawing these three images of his iconic cameos in some of our films. Ryan Meinerding told the other Stan he sees in this opening tribute. Thanks, Stan Lee!”

C. Robert Cargill, co-writer of Doctor Strange together with director Scott Derrickson, recounted his first encounter with the Marvel icon: “I met Stan Lee on the Doctor Strange red carpet. An assistant approached me and said, “Excuse me, Mr. Cargill, Stan would like to meet you.” Having grown up with Marvel, my heart stopped. He said “I just wanted to let you know that I loved the movie. You hit on Stephen perfectly. “Boom. All the approval I needed for Doctor Strange ended in two sentences. I didn’t care what critics or friends thought of it. Stan loved him.”

Just a few days ago, Marvel Studios vice president Victoria Alonso confirmed that no one will take Stan Lee’s place in the MCU films: the cartoonist appeared for the last time in the Avengers: Endgame cameo.
