The relationship between two main characters of this Star Wars sequel trilogy like Rey and Kylo Ren, played by Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver, is also at the center of Star Wars: The Ascent of Skywalker. After triumphing against Palpatine, the final encounter between the two characters was truly electrifying for the fans.
When Ben Solo decides to cure Rey and the two look at each other in the eye. But the kiss vanishes all those vibrations of love that seemed to be there a moment before. At the end of the film, Rey takes the surname Skywalker, for many the confirmation of a sort of symbolic union between the two characters.
To complicate matters further it takes JJ Abrams, who responds to a fan’s comment on Twitter: “There’s as much brother and sister between Rey and Kylo as romantic. So it’s not that kind of sexual and romantic thing; it’s more like they are simply tied together in this crazy spiritual way. Again, I felt romantic.”
“This is something like when you first listen to John Williams’ musical theme on Luke Skywalker. It was a romantic theme for Luke and Leia.“
Abrams’ statements did nothing but further confuse the ideas to the fans, and a little off the enthusiasm of those spectators who cheered for love between Kylo and Rey.
