During the nine episodes of the Skywalker Saga, we saw quite a few lightsabers of different colors: green, blue, red, purple … A yellow lightsaber, however, had never been seen. Is there a particular meaning, then, behind that used by Rey in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker?
The reasons for the choice of Daisy Ridley’s character to build one of her own is clear: in view of the definitive closure of a cycle, burying Luke and Leia’s lightsabers under the rubble of Luke’s uncles’ house certainly makes sense.
But why yellow? An explanation would be this: according to the canon, yellow lightsabers were used by guards defending the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, and who pledged to defend peace during the Clone War. It seems plausible, therefore, that Rey chose the yellow color for his sword in order to pay homage not only to the most famous Jedi but also to thousands of knights whose names have been lost in the mare magnum of history. And then, in short, the colors available are certainly not infinite!
JJ Abrams, meanwhile, explained the revelation of Rey’s origins in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Many fans of the saga, meanwhile, are noticing a clear resemblance between the Episode IX finale and that of Avengers: Endgame.
