150,000 vacationers “can’t go” this weekend.

SNCF Voyageurs boss, Christophe Fanichet, clarified on BFMTV that 850,000 French people will be able to go on vacation this weekend. On the other hand, 150,000 will not have their train.

A strike by SNCF controllers will affect many French people. But the toll could be even heavier, as one of the two TGVs may not run this weekend due to crew chief shortages. According to Christophe Fanichet, CEO of SNCF Voyageurs, 150,000 out of a million French people who planned to travel by train on vacation “won’t be able to go”.

“I want to apologize to the company, because not all French people will be able to travel this weekend, not all trains will run, one of the two TGVs will run,” declared the manager on the BFMTV antenna on Friday 16 February.

“This weekend, we were expecting a million French people who were going on vacation. Thanks to the extraordinary mobilization of all railway workers, 850,000 French people will finally be able to leave,” he continued.

Before adding: “I am sorry because 150,000 French people will not be able to leave. Although we have warned them since Tuesday, they have not received the solution they need.”

“50% off tickets through this summer”

More specifically, SNCF Voyageurs has worked to ensure that “there is one of two TGVs in the entire region, as much as inOui, and for as many young people as possible” who travel without their parents.

French people affected by the strike will be able to exchange their tickets or get a “100%” refund, Christophe Fanichet mentioned.

In addition, SNCF Voyageurs proposed that “those who had canceled tickets could receive a “compensation”, with the possibility of getting tickets at 50% of the train rate for whatever day or time they take until this summer.

Christophe Fanichet also assured that traffic will return to normal on Monday. “There may be some restart snags,” he admitted though.
